Franzosi Winery dates back to the XX century when grandfather Giovanni decided to found his Estate in Puegnago del Garda, in the heart of Valtènesi, a large area extended between Desenzano del Garda and Salò, covering almost the entire Brescia side of Lake Garda, famous above all for the production of wine and olive oil, as well as for the beauties of the landscape, Lake and hills.
Over time the winery then passed into the hands of his son Bruno and now to his sons: Paola, Giovanni and Luigi, the third generation that gives a great value to the territory, open up to innovations, investments, new markets and the social world (you may also be interested in: “Cantina Franzosi 2.0: a combination of innovation and tradition“).
In this year, 2018, Franzosi Winery is celebrating a very important event, a real goal conquered with passion, love and will: its 80th anniversary, 8 decades of wine making.
The Estate Franzosi was founded in 1938 combining tradition and innovation, knowledge and respect for nature.
How to celebrate a tradition of winemakers that has been handed down for over 3 generations?
Simple, making a new wine, limited edition, selecting only the best grapes, coming from the oldest vines.
This new red wine is obtained by selecting the best grapes, rigorously hand harvested from the oldest vines, with an age of over thirty years, focusing on quality.
The production per hectare is about 5/6 tons (compared to the average wine production which is equal to 8/10 tons per hectare).
We favor a withering in the plant: the clusters are left attached to the vine (the flow of the lymph is interrupted with a twist of the bunch peduncle) and left to dry directly on the vine for about a week.
This process leads to a loss of weight of the bunches, allowing the evaporation of the liquid elements, such as water, favoring the concentration of sugars present inside the cells of the berry.
In this way he obtains a more full-bodied wine, rich in alcohol and softer, with a wider and more complex organoleptic profile.
The acidity perceived in the mouth is less evident and the wine is more balanced and harmonious, maintaining a good structure and astringency on the palate.
The grapes are harvested in the middle of October, vinified in steel at a controlled temperature. About 10 days of maceration on the skins, with various pump overs. Malolactic in steel.
The wine is aged for 18 months in medium toasted barriques, most of them of second passage. Before being marketed, the wine is aged in the bottle.
Save the date 1938
