Here we are to celebrate falling in love on Valentine’s Day, the bottles of the new vintage of Valtènesi Chiaretto have been officially uncorked, the rosé wine typical of the west coast of Lake Garda, an area that has always been dedicated to the production of rosé.
The origin of Chiaretto del Garda dates back to 1896, from a love story between a Gardesan noblewoman Amailia Brumati and a Venetian senator Pompeo Molmenti, who, having moved to Moniga del Garda, had the opportunity to deepen his passion for wine and the vinification. Molmenti was able to use the knowledge acquired during his travels to France regarding rosè wine and Chiaretto was one of the first Italian wines to have obtained the denomination of controlled origin.
Valtènesi Chiaretto is obtained from four red grapes: the native Groppello, cultivated in Valténesi even before the discovery of America, Barbera, Marzemino and Sangiovese grapes. Traditionally, the first bunches of the harvest are used to produce Chiaretto del Garda.
The secret of this pearl of Lake Garda, obtained by man’s art and knowledge, is the short contact of the must with the skins and the control of the temperature during fermentation, thus allowing to obtain the characteristic “rose petal color” and floral scents of Valtènesi Chiaretto.
Valtènesi Chiaretto has notes of citrus fruits, berries, pomegranate, and wild flowers. the flavor is soft, fresh and fine, characterized by a marked salinity given by the morainic soils of Valtènesi and a light almond aftertaste.
Chiaretto del Garda goes well with main dishes with fish, lake and sea fish, white meats and sushi. Ideal with appetizers, young salami and white pizza.
Let’s taste it and good Valtènesi Chairetto to everyone!
