Benaco Bresciano Rebo IGP: history and innovation

Rebo red wine, a tribute to Rebo Rigotti’s viticulture experimentation, it has become a highlight of Cantina Franzosi in just a few years, with a modern and unique label.

“Benaco Bresciano Rebo Igp”, better known as “Rebo”, has become a source of pride of the Franzosi Estate.

It is one of the the last vine grown in the Valtènesi area, the first vintage dates back to 2006.

It is a young wine that immediately established and spread throughout the Valtènesi.

The inventor of the Rebo

The origins of the Rebo date back to 1948, when the agronomist Rebo Rigotti, after years of experimentation with more empirical methods than scientific, gave birth to a new vine at the Agricultural Institute of San Michele all’Adige.

The techniques used were so handmade that even the inventor of the Rebo had very clear ideas about how he had conceived: at the time of recording the new Incrocio Rigotti 107-3, in fact, the agronomist claimed to have obtained it from the crossroads of the Marzemino and the Merlot.

Many years later, however, it was shown that Merlot Regotti had combined Teroldego. The result was a grape that gave life to a simple but elegant wine, which combines the kindness of Teroldego’s aromas to the sustained body of Merlot.

Born and developed mainly in the area its founder, between the Valle dei Laghi and the Trentino hills, the Rebo has agronomic characteristics that allow its cultivation throughout the north-central Italy, and already twenty years ago the first experiments began on our Lake Garda.

This experimentation has produced excellent results: the territory of the Valtènesi thanks to the special mild microclimate, regulated by the waters of the lake and by a good ventilation, makes the production of this excellent and unique wine.

We too, Cantina Franzosi, have decided to grow this wine, appreciated by wine lovers, produced with grapes from our vineyards in the morainic hills, still hand-picked and carefully selected.

Just for your eyes

Following the famous aphorism “Less is more”, we have decided to choose a clear label to promote our wine and make you curious to drink it: Rebo written in red, on a black background.

Our label has remained the same since 2006.

Description

Rebo is a full bodied wine, rich, complex, well-rounded flavor that lingers in the mouth.

Intense and bright ruby red colour.

Fruity notes with hints of cherry, plum, blackberry, black currant, combine with spicy.

Full body, pleasant, harmonic with soft and round tannins. Long finish, persistent.

It goes well with lamb chops, red meat such as rump steak grilled or entrecote. Try it with more or less aged cheeses, tasty first courses, game and the very famous spit. To be served around 18°C.

Alcohol level adds to the viscosity of a wine. A wine higher in alcohol will feel weightier than a wine with lower alcohol. You can physically see the impression of alcohol level as you swirl wine in a glass. A wine with higher alcohol will have more viscous wine tears. Our Rebo with 14,5% feel richer.

Thanks to its warm and harmonious taste, it is excellent for all seasons, not only in winter months, but also during summer with grilled meat.
